
Greenville downs Charlotte, 8-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Greenville Grrrowl scored four goals in the second period en route to an 8-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers in front of 6,371 fans Monday night at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Greenville's John Snowden scored a hat trick earning the First Star of the game.
The Grrrowl opened a 3-0 lead, on two goals by Snowden and one by Duncan Dalmao, before Juris Stals scored for the Checkers at the 7:16 mark of the second period. Greenville answered with goals from Cody Blanshan, the Third Star of the game, and Brock Radunske to finish out the second period with a 5-1 advantage.
The third period would be more from the Grrrowl as Snowden notched his third goal of the night, followed by goals from Rory McMahon and Krys Barch. Collin Pepperall registered four assists in the game for Greenville.
Mike Brodeur picked up the win and earned the Second Star of the game stopping 30-of-31 shots by Charlotte. Jeff Glass was the hard luck loser as he gave up five goals in the first and second period on 26 shots. Chris Holt made nine saves on 12 shots in the third period for the Checkers.
Greenville scored on 3-of-8 power play chances, while Charlotte failed to convert on eight attempts.
The Checkers are on the road for the next three games beginning tomorrow as they face the Greenville Grrrowl at 7:00 pm. The Checkers will then head to Pensacola for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday, both at 8:00 pm. The Checkers will return home on Monday, January 2nd to host the Augusta Lynx at 7:00 pm.
