San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls announced Monday that goaltender Tom Lawson has been re-assigned by the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters and that fellow netminder Tyler Weiman has been recalled to Lowell. Both were originally assigned to the Gulls by the Colorado Avalanche, San Diego's NHL affiliate.
In nine games with San Diego this season, Lawson has posted a 6-1-2 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and .919 save percentage. He also recorded his first shutout this season (14th career) in a 7-0 victory over the Bakersfield Condors on Nov. 18. Lawson has a 4-0-1 mark at home and his 2.37 GAA ranks sixth overall in the ECHL. He was selected as the Gulls' Player of the Month for November.
Lawson appeared in four games with the Lock Monsters, posting a 1-2-1 record with a 3.68 GAA and .880 save percentage. He began training camp this season with Colorado and Lowell before being assigned to San Diego on Oct. 6.
Weiman was named a runner-up for ECHL Reebok Goalie of the Week honors last week. Overall, the 5-foot-11-inch, 180-pounder from Lloydminster, Alberta is 5-8-2 with a 3.10 GAA and .894 save percentage. After getting off to a 1-6-1 start, Weiman is 4-2-1 since. He has stopped 117 out of 125 shots in his last four games (.936 save percentage)... The Avalanche also originally assigned Weiman to the Gulls in early October. He was Colorado's fifth round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Guillaume Fournier, sidelined the last three games with concussion-like symptoms, could be back in the lineup Tuesday. The second-year winger has 19 points (8g, 11a) in 21 games for San Diego this season. The Gulls play in Vegas Tuesday, with game-time slated for 7:05 p.m. San Diego faces off in Idaho Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with all games beginning at 6:10 p.m. (PST).* The Gulls' next home game is Wednesday, Jan. 4 against the Alaska Aces, which starts a four-game homestand.
