Reading Royals News Release
Royals Notes:
- The Royals did not play during the preceding week. The team's record remains 15-6-2=32, which places Reading in second place in the North Division of the American Conference and translates into a .696 win percentage-which is the fifth best win percentage in the league.
- On Tuesday, Reading kicks off a seven game road trip, including the first trip out west in team history.
- This week's western swing kicks off with the three consecutive games against the Stockton Thunder.
- After three in a row against the Thunder, the Royals travel to Long Beach, where they meet the Ice Dogs for the third time this season- but for the first time in team history at the Long Beach Arena.
- Reading then travels to Las Vegas for the team's only match-up of the season against a team from the West Division, which will take place on Tuesday, January 4.
- After completing the western swing, Reading comes back east, playing in Johnston a week from Friday and in Trenton a week from Saturday, before returning home on Tuesday, January 10 against the Wheeling Nailers.
- The Royals are currently riding the team's longest road win streak of the season, having won three in a row away from the Sovereign Center.
- There were several transactions over the course of this past week that will alter the Royals line-up when the team returns to action on Tuesday. Right wing Doug Christiansen was loaned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday, December 17, and missed two games with the Royals (the 7-6 overtime loss to the Fresno Falcons on December 17; and the 3-2 loss to the Falcons on December 18).
- Christiansen played two games while he was in Bridgeport, a 6-2 loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack on December 17 (during which he was involved in a fight), and a 5-2 loss to Norfolk Admirals on December 18.
- Christiansen was released from his PTO with the Sound Tigers on December 19, and he is expected to be in the Royals' lineup on Tuesday in Stockton.
- Defenseman Jeff State was also loaned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on December 17, and, as with Doug Christiansen, State missed two games with the Royals, while playing two games with the Sound Tigers.
- State has played a total of five games with Bridgeport this season, and he has picked up an assist and 14 penalty minutes in those AHL games.
- State was released from his PTO with Bridgeport on Monday, December 19, and he is expected to return to the Royals' lineup on Tuesday in Stockton.
- On Friday, December 23, goaltender Barry Brust was re-called by the Manchester Monarchs. Brust began this season in Manchester, going 4-1-1 with a 2.55 goals against average and a .923 save % until being re-assigned to the Royals on November 23.
- During his stint in Reading, Brust played in six games and compiled a record of 3-3-0 with a 3.00 gaa and a .906 save %.
- Brust was the goaltender of record in the Royals' last game, stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced in Reading's 3-2 loss to the Fresno Falcons on Sunday, December 18.
- On Saturday, December 24, goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji was re-assigned by the Manchester Monarchs to the Royals. Fukufuji started the season with Reading, compiling a record of 2-1-1 with a 3.20 gaa and a .907 save percentage before being re-called to the Monarchs on November 15.
- In his last game with the Royals, Fukufuji stopped 21 of the 25 shots he faced in Reading's 7-4 win over the Dayton Bombers on November 11.
- While in Manchester, Fukufuji appeared in two games, compiling a 1-1-0 record with a 3.00 gaa and .923 save %.
- In his most recent appearance for Manchester, Fukufuji stopped 35 of the 38 shots he faced in a 3-2 loss to the Portland Pirates on December 4.
- It is expected that Fukufuji will be in uniform with the Royals when the team returns to action on Tuesday.
- On Monday, December 26, defenseman Eric Werner was recalled to the Manchester Monarchs. Werner actually began this season in Manchester, playing in one game for the Monarchs on October 8, before being reassigned to the Royals.
- Prior to this recall to Manchester, Werner had played in all 23 games for Reading, scoring four goals and adding 8 assists and 12 penalty minutes while playing to a plus four.
