December 26, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators extended their unbeaten streak to six games with a 4-0 win over the South Carolina Stingrays Monday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Gladiators goaltender Jeff Jakaitis picked up his second straight shutout against the Stingrays with 21 saves on the night.
The Gladiators (14-8-6-3) held the Stingrays (15-11-1-1) to just three shots in the first period, making it the fewest shots in the first period for the Rays this season. Gwinnett outshot South Carolina 13-3 to conclude a scoreless first period.
To break the game open, the Gladiators erupted with three straight goals in the second period. Forward Andy Brandt began the three-goal second period for Gwinnett with a wrister from the bottom of the left wing circle at 1:42 into the period. Pat Galivan and Riley Grantham picked up the assists.
Not even two minutes later, Justin Milo set up a shot from behind the net to Tyler Murovich where Chris Clackson picked up the puck in the slot and posted his fifth goal of the season beating Stingrays netminder Paul Grubauer. The Glads would take the 2-0 lead at 3:13 into the period.
Late in the second period, Gwinnett notched their third goal of the second period with a floating pass from Nikita Kashirsky to Justin Milo who crashed the crease and slid the puck under the glove hand of Grubauer. Milo picked up two points (one goal, one assist) on the game. The Glads held the Stingrays scoreless into the final period of the game.
Forward Brian Brutlag scored the final goal of the game for the Glads with the help from Colin Vock at 12:01 in the third period. The Glads skated to a 4-0 shutout over the Rays.
Jeff Jakaitis picked up his third shut out of the season with the win. The goaltender continued to hold the lead in the ECHL with a .944 save percentage.
Gwinnett will take on the Stingrays on Wednesday night at 7:05 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
