Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators will take on the South Carolina Stingrays and the Florida Everblades this week to begin a five home-game stretch. Gwinnett remains tops in the South Division with 35 points (13-8-6-3) and is ranked third in the league. The Gladiators will look to continue to remain unbeaten regulation. In their last 4-3 overtime loss against South Carolina, the Glads skated to their league leading 11th overtime game of the season.
South Carolina Stingrays Preview:
Gwinnett takes on the Stingrays (15-11-1-1) Monday and Wednesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators have been unbeaten in regulation in their last five meetings against the Rays and have posted a record of 3-3-2-1 overall this season. South Carolina shares second place in the South Division with 32 points. In the last meeting in North Charleston, Chris Clackson took the Gladiators into overtime with the help of Tyler Murovich who notched two assists for the game. South Carolina is led in scoring by Sean Dolan who has earned 20 points off of 7 goals and 13 assists in 28 games.
Florida Everblades Preview :
The Gladiators wrap up the week on Friday against the Everblades (15-13-1-1). The Everblades are in a three-way tie for second place in the South Division with 32 points on the season. In their last meeting against the Everblades, Gwinnett was lifted to a 4-2 win with the help of a short-handed goal from Tyler Murovich. The Glads went one-for-five on the power play in the win. Gwinnett is led in scoring against Florida by Andy Brandt who has eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) this season.

Tuesday, December 20: Gwinnett, 3, South Carolina, 4 - OTL
Chris Doyle scored his first goal of the season with 48 seconds left in overtime to lift the South Carolina Stingrays to a 4-3 overtime win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Gwinnett went past regulation for a league leading 11th time this season in the overtime loss. Tyler Murovich collected two assists in the losing effort for Gwinnett.
News & Notes:
In December : After a slow start to the season, Gladiators forward Chris Clackson has come on strong over the month of December. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has notched four goals and two assists for six points in December with three games yet to play. He had just four points in October and November combined.
In Overtime : The Gladiators skated in their league leading 11th overtime game of the season in a 4-3 overtime loss at South Carolina on December 20th. Gwinnett has posted a 2-0-6-3 record in games past regulation this season and Gwinnett is on pace to break the league record for most overtime/shootout losses in one season. The Gladiators are on place to finish the year with 22 eclipsing the mark of 18 set by the Mobile Mysticks in the 2001-02 season. The Idaho Steelheads have also been to 11 games past regulation but have posted an 8-0-2-1 record this season.
Goalie of the Week : Gladiators goaltender Jeff Jakaitis was named the ECHL goaltender of the week for the Week of December 12th through 18th as he helped the Gladiators go a perfect 3-0-0 during the week while posting a 1.00 goals against average and a .964 save percentage.
Back to the A : Gladiators forward Igor Gongalsky has been called up to the AHL. Gongalsky was signed on December 15th by the Gladiators and earned on goal and two assists in four games with the Gladiators. He was called up by Rochester of the AHL and appeared in the Americans 4-1 win over Lake Erie on December 22nd.
Another Helper : Andy Brandt collected his 12th assist of the season in the Gladiators 4-3 overtime loss at South Carolina on December 20th. For Brandt, he is on pace to set a new personal best in assists in a season with 28, eclipsing his previous mark of 26 helpers notched in the 2007-08 season.
Rookie Leader : Forward Bryan Brutlag collected his 7th goal of the season in the Gladiators 4-3 overtime loss at South Carolina on December 20th. It was the 15th point of the season for the Lakeville, Minnesota native who leads all Gladiators rookies in scoring through 30 games this season.
Unbeaten in Regulation : With a 4-3 overtime loss to the South Carolina Stingrays on December 20th extended the Gladiators unbeaten streak to five games, tying the team season high for longest streak without a regulation loss. Gwinnett has picked up all its points in five game unbeaten streaks this season except for a pair of wins in the second and third game of the season this year.
At the Top : Gladiators goaltender Jeff Jakaitis currently leads the ECHL among netminders with a .941 save percentage. He ranks second in the ECHL when ranked by goals against average with a 1.90 GAA on the season.
1-0 : The Gladiators knocked off the South Carolina Stingrays 1-0 on December 17th at the North Charleston Coliseum. Will Colbert collected the only goal in the win for Gwinnett. It was the fourth 1-0 win for Gwinnett in team history. Guillaume Desbiens scored for Gwinnett in a 1-0 win at Augusta on March 30, 2006. Colton Fretter notched the only goal in a 1-0 win over Augusta on December 9, 2006. Andy Brandt had the only goal in a 1-0 win at South Carolina on November 26, 2010.
