Gladiators Power Past Stingrays 5-1

The Gwinnett Gladiators used five power play goals to beat the South Carolina Stingrays 5-1 on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

South Carolina's Davis Parley kept the Gladiators off the board in the opening period with a hand full on highlight reel saves. Parley stoned Milan Gajic on a pair of first period breakaways and got part of his right leg pad on a breakaway chance by Guillaume Desbiens. Parley finished with 16 saves in the first period.

The Gladiators finally broke through 39 seconds into the second period on the power play. Jon Awe's slapshot through traffic beat Parley for the 5-on-3 power play tally. Scott Mifsud and Jeff Campbell posted the assists on the marker.

South Carolina equalized the contest midway through the second period. Anders Strome pushed the puck off the pad of Gwinnett netminder Sean Fields for the tally 10:26 into the second. Scott Cameron picked up an assist, moving the puck along to Strome for the power play goal.

Steve Slaton posted the game winner 31 seconds into the third period on another power play for the Gladiators. Scott Mifsud slid the puck through the slot to a waiting Slaton for an assist on the goal. Campbell also had an assist on the goal.

Gwinnett took a 3-1 lead on Troy Milam's 7th on the season at the 7:38 mark of the third period. Milam ripped a slap shot off the crossbar and into the net for the power play goal. Campbell and Gajic hooked up to collect the assists on the marker.

Gajic added Gwinnett's fourth goal of the game and the Gladiators fourth power play goal of the contest at the 11:58 mark of the third period. Gajic threaded the pock under the shoulder of Parley from the left wing circle for the tally. Derek Nesbitt picked up a helper on the goal.

Scott Mifsud rounded out the scoring with the Gladiators fifth power play goal of the game 49 seconds after Gajic's tally. Parked on the doorstep, Mifsud jammed the puck past Parley for the goal. Desbiens and Milam had the assists on the goal.

Gwinnett had 21 power play chances in the contest as South Carolina posted 88 penalty minutes in the contest. Gwinnett had 13 chances in the third period alone while finishing with five power play goals in the contest.
