Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings returned from a 4-2-1 road trip to play the final series of the season at home at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The Utah Grizzlies clawed away game one of the series with a 3-0 victory.
After a scoreless first period, the Grizzlies lit the lamp at 3:33 into the second period. Captain Louis Dumont tallied his 16th goal of the season, with assists to team leading scorer Ryan Kinasewich and Garrett Cameron.
At even strength in the second, Utah increased the lead 2-0 with Dumont, Kinasewich, and Cameron collaborating again. Dumont dealt a pass to Kinasewich open in the slot, and Kinasewich fired a shot past Netminder Rob McVicar to earn his 38th goal of the season.
The crowd of 4,619 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre roared as Victoria added pressure nearing the finish of the second period, but were held off by Goaltender Justin Eddy. After two frames, despite a Utah two goal lead, the shots were close with the Grizzlies edging the Salmon Kings, 18-17.
Utah scored an insurance goal in the third period at 12:28 for the 3-0 lead. Cameron picked up a rebound off a Dumont shot, and posted his third point of the night in the Utah victory.
Victoria was 0-4 on the power play, and Utah was scoreless out of two chances with the man advantage. Eddy earned his 14th win and first shutout of the season, and McVicar suffered his 14th loss of the season. Utah outshot Victoria 31-24.
