2007 Playoff March Notes

The Gladiators have 12 regular season games remaining.

Gwinnett plays three more regular season games against the two teams currently ranked first - the Florida Everblades - and second - the Texas Wildcatters - in the ECHL's South Division.

The top five teams in the ECHL's South Division qualify for the Kelly Cup playoffs with the two teams ranked 4 & 5 playing a three game series to determine the #4 seed that will face the #1 seed in the best-of-5 division semifinals. Seed #2 and #3 will also face each other in the division semi-finals.

When ranked by winning percentage, Gwinnett (.642) moves into second place in the division ahead of the Texas Wildcatters (.627) while the Florida Everblades (.661) would move into first place in the division.

Gwinnett plays at Charlotte on Tuesday, at Pensacola on Friday, hosts Columbia on Saturday and Florida on Sunday.

The Gladiators play 6 of their remaining regular season games on the road beginning Tuesday night in Charlotte.

Gwinnett plays 5 of its remaining 12 games against teams currently in a playoff position.

The Pensacola Ice Pilots have been officially eliminated from playoff contention. If the Ice Pilots won every one of their remaning games, they could only amass 65 points, 2 points shy of the current 5th place South Carolina Stingrays.

Of the two teams currently not in a playoff position, Charlotte has the best chance of qualifying for the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Checkers are 2 points behind the #5 seed South Carolina Stingrays but have played three fewer games so far this season than the Stingrays.

Currently, 92 points will guarantee a playoff position as the 5th place South Carolina Stingrays can only amass 91 points this year.

Qualifying for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of their first three seasons in Gwinnett, the Gladiators clinched a playoff berth during the 2003-04 season on March 31, 2004; clinched during the 2004-05 season on March 26, 2005; and wrapped up a playoff berth last year during the 2005-06 season on February 28, 2006.
