Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Playoff March Notes:

If the playoffs were to begin today, the Gladiators would be the 6th seed in the American Conference. The top 8 teams in the conference qualify for the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Division winners seeded 1 & 2. Pensacola is currently in 1st place in the South Division while Charlotte is currently in 1st place in the East Division.

The Gladiators picked up 6 of a possible 8 points, going 3-1-0 last week to move into 6th place in the Conference.

Pensacola becomes the first team in the ECHL to clinch a playoff berth as they won on Saturday night while Pee Dee lost in regulation.

The Gladiators and the Columbia Inferno have played the fewest games in the American Conference – 57 – and have the most points available to earn.

When ranked by winning percentage, the Gladiators (.614) move into 5th position in the conference ahead of South Carolina (.600) but remain behind Columbia (.632)

The Gladiators magic number is 84. Right now, any team that accumulates 84 points automatically makes the playoffs in the American Conference. The 9th place Pee Dee Pride can only amass 83 points with the games they have remaining.

Gwinnett is .500 or better against every team they have games remaining against this season that they have already played.

Texas has been eliminated from the playoffs. Louisiana is all but mathematically eliminated with just 7 points to give before being officially eliminated.

The Gladiators didn't clinch a playoff berth last season until March 31st. This season, the Gladiators could clinch a playoff berth as early as March 25th.

The Gladiators visit South Carolina on Tuesday, host Mississippi on Friday, travel to Charlotte on Saturday and close out the week on Sunday at home against Columbia.
