
Gladiators Beat Everblades, 7-4

Andy Cointois posted two goals to help the Gladiators past the Florida Everblades 7-4 on Wednesday night at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida. Gwinnett moved back into a tie for first place in the ECHL's South Division with 64 points and a 29-14-6 record.
Mike Vigilante gave the Gladiators a 1-0 lead just 5:04 into the first period. Walking down the left wing wall, Vigilante beat Florida netminder Craig Kowalski to the short side for the marker for his 18th goal of the season. Andy Contois collected an assist on the goal for the Gladiators.
Gwinnett took a 2-0 lead on the power play at the 12:36 mark of the first period. Colton Fretter collected his 35th goal of the year as he wandered into the slot untouched and ripped a shot past Kowalski for the goal. Brad Schell flipped the puck to Fretter to set up the marker. Scott Mifsud also had an assist on the power play goal for Gwinnett.
Contois pushed the Gladiators lead to 3-0 with his 13th goal of the year ripping a snap shot from the left wing circle past Kowalski for the marker. Jamie Milam posted the assist finding Contois streaking down the left wing through the neutral zone. Vigilante also had a helper on the goal at the 15:08 mark of the first.
Florida broke the shutout as Adam Taylor flipped the puck past an out stretched Gladiators netminder Dave Caruso at the 17:31 mark of the first period. Taylor found a rebound in the slot to set up the goal. Vince Bellissimo and Brad Parsons had the assists on the goal for the Everblades.
Florida cut the lead to 3-2 at the 10:59 mark of the second period. Taylor collected his second goal of the game deflecting Chris Dyment's slap shot from the point to beat Caruso for the goal.
Jim Jackson regained the two-goal lead for the Gladiators with just 51 seconds left in the second period. Joel Stepp won an offensive zone draw cleanly back to Jackson at the point where the defenseman ripped a slapshot off the crossbar and past Kowalski for the marker.
Florida cut the Gladiators lead to one goal just 2:18 into the third period. Taylor finished the hat trick ripping the puck past Caruso for the goal. Ryan Van Buskirk and Bellissimo had the assists on the power play goal for the Everblades.
Gwinnett again regained a two-goal lead, this time on Contois' second goal of the game. Sliding into the slot, Contois ripped a shot past Kowalski for the marker. Vigilante and Milam collected the assists on the goal at the 3:37 mark of the third period.
Brad Parsons again got the Everblades back within a goal less than 20 seconds later as he beat Caruso on a rebound in the slot for the goal. Bellissimo had his third assist of the night on goal while Ryan Brindley also picked up a helper on the goal coming at the 3:53 mark of the third period but Florida could get no closer.
Blue Bennefield put the contest away for Gwinnett ripping a slapshot from the high slot past Kowalski for the power play goal with just 1:09 left in the third period. Joe Stepp and Paul Flache had the assist on the tally for Gwinnett.
Milam closed out the scoring with an empty net goal for Gwinnett with just 22 second left in the third period. Milam's goal came unassisted for the Gladiators.
Caruso finished with 26 saves for the Gladiators. Gwinnett added two power play goals on 6 chances in the win while Florida went 1-for-7 on the power play in the loss.
