FORT WAYNE, IN- Wrapping up a six-game road trip, the Kalamazoo Wings attacked in bunches but couldn't overtake the Fort Wayne Komets on their home ice, and fell in a 4-2 final on Friday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Fort Wayne took advantage of a net-front scramble in the opening minutes of the game and took the early lead. Kyle Thomas attacked the net with the puck and, while Joel Martin made the initial save, the loose puck was un-marked, leaving Garrett Thompson to mop up the rebound for the goal.

Minutes into the second period, Kalamazoo pulled even with a brilliant passing display and were right back in the game. Tyler Shattock slid the puck to Eric Kattelus at the point, who capped off the tic-tac-toe series of passing with a back-door give to Anthony Camara for the one-time finish.

Not wasting much time, Fort Wayne re-gained the lead with their second of the night, just five later. Kyle Follmer joined the rush from his defensive post and buried his second of the season with the help of a feed from Jason Binkley.

Five minutes after the go-ahead goal, Mike Cazzola tacked on some insurance for the Komets, as he darted up the right wing side of the Wings' end and snapped a wrist shot that leaked through the pads of Martin and into the goal, sending Fort Wayne into the second intermission with a two-goal lead.

After a back-and-forth start to the third period, Fort Wayne upped their lead with their fourth goal of the night. Cazzola set up behind Martin's net and dished to Shawn Szydlowski at the right-wing faceoff dot. Szydlowksi one-touched a shot over Martin's glove and into the goal for his 13th of the season.

Not going down without a fight, Kalamazoo looked to mount a comeback and were able to slice the deficit to a pair. Shattock found Camara in the high slot, and the Kalamazoo forward wired a shot that appeared to be stopped by Komets' goalie Garrett Bartus, but the puck leaked through his pads and trickled over the goal line.

With 1:42 remaining in regulation, Martin was pulled in favor of an extra attacker, but Kalamazoo's attack was kept in check by Fort Wayne, and the Komets earned a 4-2 victory.
