Jackals Shut out by Everblades

ESTERO, Fla.-The Florida Everblades (15-3-1-2) broke a scoreless tie with a shorthanded goal early in the third period to defeat the Elmira Jackals (5-12-4-0), 1-0, Friday night at Germain Arena. It's the second loss in three days to the Everblades.
It was a goaltending duel throughout the night, with Jackals goalie Andy Iles and Everblades goalie Matt Skoff trading saves through the first two period. Skoff stopped 15 Elmira shots in the first and another three in the second, while Iles turned aside nine first-period shots and 10 second-period shots, sending the game into the third deadlocked 0-0.
The third period saw a flurry of penalties, giving the Jackals numerous power plays, but it was the Everblades that found the back of the net shorthanded. On the first of three consecutive Florida minor penalties, Michael Ferrantino found a loss puck in the Everblades offensive zone and beat Iles with a backhand shot to give Florida a 1-0 lead at 2:55. It's the fourth shorthanded goal allowed by the Jackals this season and the third in the last four games.
The Jackals had two opportunities with shortened 5-on-3 power plays, but came up empty in both and were 0-for-7 with the man advantage in the game as they were shut out for the fourth time this season.
