LHP Drew Smyly (0-0, --) vs. LHP Mike Kickham (3-3, 4.30)
Multiple Long Balls: With his multi-homerun outburst in last night's game, Travis Shaw became the sixth Missions player this season to record a multiple home run game. He joins Lucas Erceg, Tyler Saladino, Cory Spangenberg, Mauricio Dubon, and Keston Hiura. This is the eighth time a Missions player has hit two or more home runs in a game this season. Hiura, who has done so three times this season, was the last to do so on June 13 before Shaw last night.
Lead the Way: Missions outfielder Trent Grisham started last night's game off with a bang. He hit a lead off home run to give him five home runs since joining the Missions. Grisham's lead off home run was the sixth time a Missions player has done so this season and first one since Corey Ray did so on May 12. Grisham joins Mauricio Dubon, Nate Orf, and Corey Ray as Missions players to hit lead off home runs this season. Orf and Ray have done so twice.
Loving the Lefties: The Missions have been very successful against southpaw starting pitchers this season. In 24 games against left-handed starters San Antonio holds an impressive 15-9 record. Missions hitters are batting .273 (223-for-818) against lefties compared to .257 (535-for-2085) against right-handers.
Uncommon Southpaw: With Drew Smyly starting tonight's game, he will become the second southpaw starting pitcher for the Missions in 2019. Former Missions reliever Brad Kuntz started on May 4 against Round Rock.
Saturday Night's Alright for Winning: So far this season, the San Antonio Missions have enjoyed playing on Saturday's. The team is currently 9-4 when playing on Saturday's. The team is batting .254 (113-for-445) with 16 home runs and 60 runs scored. The Missions pitching staff has a 3.86 ERA in 119.0 innings pitched on Saturday's and have held opposing batters to a .248 average.
