HEAD TO HEAD - This is the ninth of 10 meetings this season between the Thunder and the Mavericks. Wichita is 19-11-0 at home and 34-21-3 all-time.
TODAY - Wichita returns home after playing the last three on the road. The Thunder began a three-game road swing at Missouri on January 31st, losing 4-0 at the Independence Events Center. Missouri is 5-5-0-0 in their last 10 games while Wichita is 4-6-0-0 and have lost 3 of their last four games. The Thunder have already claimed the Independence Cup and host the Mavericks for the final time this season tonight. Sebastien Thinel leads the Mavericks with six points and five goals agains tthe Thunder. Lindsay Sparks has six assists in the season-series. Ian Lowe has five goals and five assists against the Mavericks while Kenton Miler has eight points.
GO RED - Tonight, Wichita will help the American Heart Association honor Go Red Month. Fans are encouraged to wear red throughout the month to help raise awareness of Women's Heart Health. Players will be wearing a special jersey tonight, which will be auctioned off after the game with the net proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association. During the 2011-12 season, Go Red Night drew 13,168 fans to INTRUST Bank Arena, the second largest crowd in franchise history. 13-year old Trenton Dancaster will serve as the team's honorary captain tonight. He was diagnosed with a heart disease at just three days old.
AFTER ONE - Over the last four games, Wichita and its opponent has failed to find the back of the net in the first period. Wichita is 12-9-0-0 when tied after one, 6-2-0-1 when leading after one and 3-7-2-3 when trailing after the first.
WALKER TIMES TWO - Jared Walker notched his 10th goal of the season last Friday, which was the eventual game-winner. It was his third game-winner of the year and set a new career-high in goals after scoring nine in his rookie season in Bloomington and nine a year ago with the Thunder. Missouri's Geoff Walker has a point a game since being acquired from Ontario (2g, 6a).
HOME SWEET HOME - Wichita spent most of January away from home and will get a heavy dose of home cooking over the next three weeks. Wichita plays two of three at home this weekend and then will make a one-game trip to Allen on Wednesday. Beginning February 20th, Wichita will start a five-game home-stand before heading out of town for seven straight.
BUNCHED UP - Wichita sits in third place, four points shy of Quad City after the Mallards won on Wednesday night against the Mavericks. From second to sixth, the division is separated by just 10 points and from third to sixth, separated by just six points.
THREE'S A CROWD - Wichita will play the Missouri Mavericks tonight before taking on the Allen Americans three-straight times. Wichita and Allen play a home-and-home series and then will travel to the Dallas Metroplex on Wednesday, February 18th.
POWERING UP - Ian Lowe recorded his 16th goal of the season on Friday night. Half of Lowe's markers have been on the man advantage, putting him alone in second place in power play goals with eight.
