Beast Breakthrough in Badlands

February 13, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release

RAPID CITY, SD- The Brampton Beast roared out the gate and onto the ice with unmatched energy and capitalized on some good puck luck, snapping their six-game losing streak with a huge win in South Dakota against the Rush by a score of 5-0.

Chad Painchaud led the way for the Beast with his first career four-goal game, while Trevor Cann added another shutout against the Rush, compiling 38 saves in the win. Frank Littlejohn added his first goal of the year and David Ling notched two assists.

The Beast followed a very well-known formula to find first period success. Backed by terrific goaltending, the Beast were able to convert on fast-breaks and turnovers. Trevor Cann made highlight-reel saves on two separate occasions in the early parts of the period and it seemed to spark his team. Just over seven minutes into the period after a Rush turnover, Justin Donati and Chad Painchaud broke into the Rapid City end on a 2-on-1. Donati passed the puck on a string to the tape of Painchaud and he made no mistake, scoring his first of the night and twelfth of the year to put the Beast up 1-0.

Towards the end of the period while Riley Austin was serving a two-minute hooking penalty, the Beast caused another turnover at their blueline. Painchaud once again broke into the Rush zone on a 2-on-1, this time with Tyson Fawcett, but Painchaud kept the puck and fired into the back of the net for his first short handed goal of the season and a 2-0 Beast lead heading into the second stanza.

At the tail end of a power play near the close of the second period, Frank Littlejohn positioned himself in front of the net after the Beast applied pressure in the Rush zone. The Beast worked the puck around and the biscuit found its way onto the stick of Littlejohn, and the veteran made no mistake, potting his first goal of the year and giving his team a 3-0 lead.

The third period saw the Beast increase their lead courtesy of the hands of Painchaud. Less than two minutes into the frame, he took a pass from David Ling on his off wing and sniped a shot into the net for the hat trick that chased Rush goalie Danny Battochio. Painchaud secured the first four-goal game by a Beast player just under 13 minutes into the period when he scored an unassisted goal off a turnover to seal the 5-0 victory for the Beast.

The Beast return home on Monday February 16, to take on the Tulsa Oilers at the Powerade Centre on Mascot Family Day where fans and families get to meet Boomer's friends!
