CINCINNATI - In the seventh of nine head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones in overtime at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati on Friday by a final score of 3-2. With the win, the Fuel's fifth consecutive victory, Indy improved to 19-22-4-3 overall this season and with 45 points, vaulted into a tie for fifth place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
The Cyclones snatched a 1-0 lead late in the first period when David Pacan tipped home a power-play goal at 18:18 with Josh McFadden and Chris Reed collecting assists on the play. In the second, Indy was able to equalize, as Fuel centerman Nicklas Lindberg tallied an extra-man score of his own at 11:48 thanks to a slick setup by Pete Massar and Garett Bembridge.
The Fuel and Cyclones traded goals in the third as Rhett Bly knocked a puck out of mid-air at 7:01 to make it 2-1 Fuel before a late equalizer from Reed at 16:42 forced overtime. In the extra session, the Fuel converted on the power-play at 2:44 as Mike Duco slammed home a centering feed from Kyle Stroh for his 12th goal of the season.
Shane Owen provided a spectacular 28-save performance in net for the Fuel to earn the victory while Rob Madore took the loss for the 'Clones, despite a 15-save performance. Friday's win pushed the Fuel's record in February to a perfect 4-0-0-0 and a near-perfect 13-1-1-0 in the team's last 15 games.
