Tulsa Oilers News Release
MOLINE, IL - Kevin Carr saved his best for last on Friday night in Quad City. The Oilers' rookie goaltender shut down a pair of point-blank scoring chances in the closing seconds of regulation to preserve a 2-1 Tulsa victory in front of 5,322 at iWireless Center. The Oilers snapped a three-game losing streak and recorded their first road triumph in nearly a month. Just three days after allowing seven goals in a loss to Missouri, the Oilers held an opponent under two goals for the first time in 12 games.
The Oilers created shots and scoring chances on their first two shifts of the contest and were quickly rewarded with a 5-on-3 power play in the opening minutes. Quad City defenseman Jannick Christensen was called for delay of game and seconds later, Paxton Leroux was sent to the box for boarding to give the Oilers a decided advantage. A slap shot from Adam Pleskach was tipped into the net by Drew Fisher at 3:54 for Tulsa's fourth 5-on-3 goal of the season and a 1-0 lead for the visitors.
Tulsa outshot Quad City 22-11 in the first period but the tables were turned in the middle frame. The Mallards peppered Carr from all angles and posted an 18-3 edge in shots over the course of the second period. One of the Oilers' three shots came off the stick of Brady Ramsay who found a lane to the net and tucked the puck under crossbar to give his side a 2-0 lead at the 10:57 mark. After receiving the puck in the corner, Ramsay darted toward Mallards' goalie Parker Milner and found space over Milner's shoulder for his third goal of the season and first as a member of the Oilers. Quad City's lone tally of the evening came on a power play with just one second remaining on the second period clock. Carr was able to stop a shot from former Oiler Justin Fox but the rebound was buried by Mike Monfredo and Tulsa's lead was cut in half just before the intermission.
In the third period, the Oilers successfully eliminated two more Quad City power plays and finished the night 6-for-7 on the penalty kill. A boarding major against Fox gave the Oilers a man-advantage over the final 2:33 of the third, but with Milner pulled to even the number of skaters, the Mallards generated one final push. Carr stoned Kevin Baker from the top of the crease and slid to his left to rob Jeff Lee with his final save of the contest.
The Oilers secured a pair of points in the front half of the weekend home-and-home with the Mallards and will look to make it two in a row on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. at the BOK Center.
