Trenton Thunder News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Thunder offense was unable to solve Binghamton's bullpen day on Friday night, falling 6-0 on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. The Rumble Ponies (26-16) took over the top spot in the Eastern Division from the Thunder (27-18) with the decision.
After facing the minimum in the first two innings of his start, Albert Abreu surrendered his first hit on an RBI single to Andres Gimenez in the third inning. Gimenez, who was thrown out at second for the final out of the frame, gave the Rumble Ponies an early 1-0 lead.
The fourth inning proved to be critical for Abreu as Binghamton touched him for five runs. With a man on first and two away, the Ponies got an RBI double from Will Toffey to extend their lead. After a walk to Kevin Kaczmarski, Ali Sanchez drove in a run with a single to center and Jason Krizan put the cherry on top of the inning with a three-run homer off the batting cage beyond the right field wall to make it 6-0.
Abreu, who was tagged with the loss, set a career-high with six walks in his five innings. He matched a season-high with six runs scored and struck out three.
The Rumble Ponies went with a bullpen day on Friday night and saw it work to perfection. Adonis Uceta allowed two hits, both to Hoy Jun Park, and walked three over the first three innings of the game, but, was able to keep the Thunder off the board; stranding five baserunners.
Joshua Torres was the second in line for the Binghamton bullpen and fired three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Torres allowed a one-out single to Brandon Wagner and then proceeded to retire the next eight batters faced. Ryley Gilliam and Matt Blackham combined to set down the final nine men to come to the plate to complete the victory.
The Thunder managed just one baserunner after the third inning, Wagner's single, and had their final 17 batters set down in order in the defeat.
James Reeves and Domingo Acevedo combined for three scoreless innings of relief after Abreu's five-inning outing.
