Louisville Bats News Release
TOLEDO, OH - The Louisville Bats broke a 3-3 tie by scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning on the way to a 7-3 win over the Toledo Mud Hens Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field.
Toledo got off to a good start in the bottom of the first inning, scoring twice against Louisville starter Brandon Williamson. Spencer Torkelson had an RBI double and Daz Cameron added a sacrifice fly in the frame.
The Bats got a run back in the top of the second inning when Juniel Querecuto's ground out scored Cristian Santana.
The score held at 2-1 until the top of the sixth inning, when Leonardo Rivas and Spencer Steer began the frame with back-to-back doubles to tie the game. Steer's double extended his on-base streak to 32 games.
Later in the inning, Querecuto drove in his second run of the night on a double, giving Louisville a 3-2 lead. Toledo evened the score at 3-3 in the next half inning on a two-out RBI triple from Andre Lipcius.
The game remained tied at three until the top of the eighth inning. In that frame, the Bats put runners at first and third with two outs for Isiah Gilliam, who laced a double into the left field corner to give Louisville the lead. Next up was Lorenzo Cedrola, who hit a three-run home run to make it a 7-3 Bats' advantage.
It was a banner night for the Louisville bullpen, as four pitchers combined to pitch the final 3.1 innings without allowing a run to secure the win.
The Bats and Mud Hens will continue their series Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET. Justin Nicolino (3-4, 5.27 ERA) will start for Louisville, opposing Joey Wentz (1-2, 3.93 ERA).
