SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Triston Casas went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, but the Worcester Red Sox (59-59) dropped the first game of their six-game series with the Syracuse Mets (51-67) by a 9-8 final score on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

The WooSox trailed 9-2 through four innings, scored six unanswered runs over the final three innings, but they left the tying run at third base in the ninth inning.

Syracuse scored first thanks to a two-run home run from Mark Vientos in the first inning.

In the third, the Mets hit two homers, a two-run shot by Francisco Alvarez and a three-run blast by Daniel Palka to extend their lead to 7-0.

Worcester got on the board in the fourth. Casas tripled home Ronaldo Hernandez for Worcester's first run. Jaylin Davis then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Casas and make it a 7-2 game.

The Mets responded with a pair in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 9-2.

The WooSox scored three runs in the seventh. Nick Sogard singled in a run. Two batters later, Abraham Almonte slugged a two-run triple, which made it 9-5.

After Hernandez drew a walk to lead off the eighth, Casas lined an RBI double to right-center. After a Davis fly out, Christin Stewart ripped a run-scoring single to make it 9-7.

Hernandez singled in a run in the ninth to make it a one-run game.

Worcester starter Chris Murphy went three innings. The WooSox bullpen (Jake Thompson, Caleb Simpson, James Norwood, and Chase Shugart) allowed only two runs over the final five innings.

The WooSox continue their six-game series with the Mets tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium. Radio coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon, 100.1 FM The Pike, and throughout the WooSox Radio Network.
