Wings Drop Series Opener in Indianapolis 3-2

The Red Wings lost to the Indianapolis Indians 3-2 on Tuesday night at Victory Park.

RHP Patrick Murphy (2-3) took the mound against the Indianapolis Indians. He threw four no-hit innings and striking out 4 hitters.

The Red Wings struck first in the top of the second taking a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by 2B Nick Banks (7).

RHP Andres Machado pitched a scoreless fifth but loaded the bases with two hits and a walk in the sixth. The Wings then brought in LHP Matt Cronin who gave up an RBI single to Indian Drew Maggi and walked Ji-hwan Bae which gave the Indians a 2-1 lead.

However C Taylor Gushue answered for the Wings in the top of the seventh with his third home run of the year tying the game at 2 a piece.

RHP Curtis Taylor gave up a solo home run in the seventh to Cal Mitchell making it 3-2. LHP Luis Avilan threw a scoreless eighth inning.

With the Red Wings recording 5 hits tonight, they are now the 7th team to reach 1,000 hits this season, averaging 8.5 hits per game.

RHP Logan Verrett (6-7) will get the start in game 2 of this series for the Red Wings on Wednesday at 1:00 pm as they look to even the series at 1-1.
