
Four IronBirds Named to NYPL All Star Game

Aberdeen, MD - The New York-Penn League announced the selections for the 2013 New York-Penn League All-Star Game. Four players from the Aberdeen IronBirds were selected to the American League team, including three starters. For the IronBirds, Trey Mancini, Austin Wynns and Mike Yastrzemski will start in the field while RHP Jimmy Yacabonis will pitch out of the bullpen.
Mancini will start at first base for the American League. He is currently fifth in the NYPL with a .327 batting average. He has hit one home run and driven in 24 games. Mancini has been a mainstay in the middle of the IronBirds batting order, playing in 41 of the teams 44 games. He was selected in the eighth round of this year's draft by the Orioles out of the University of Notre Dame and is in his first season as a pro.
Yastrzemski was recently named the Baltimore Orioles' Offensive Player of the Month for the month of July. He is seventh in the NYPL with a .321 batting average. He has hit two home runs and driven in 12 runs. He leads the IronBirds in both on-base percentage and slugging at .429 and .500 respectively. He has played the majority of his games at centerfield, but has also played games in left and right field as well. He was selected by the Orioles in the 14th round of this year's draft out of Vanderbilt University.
Wynns is hitting for a .270 batting average with nine runs batted-in. He has caught the bulk of the IronBirds' games, throwing out 20 percent of base-stealers (11-54). He is in his first professional season, drafted in the 10th round out of Fresno State University in this year's draft.
Yacabonis has pitched to a 0.43 ERA in 21.0 innings pitched out of the bullpen. He has a 2-0 record and has picked up three saves. He has faced 78 batters and held them to a .125 batting average against. He was selected by the Orioles in the 13th round of this year's draft out St. Joseph's University.
The NYPL All-Star Game will be played in Norwich, Connecticut at Dodd Stadium, home of the Connecticut Tiger, Short-Season A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The game will be played on August 13th at 7:35 pm.
