Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Norwich, CT- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers were never able to get the bats going on Sunday afternoon at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut. A 2 run 3rd inning proved enough for the Tigers as they held on for the 2-1 win. The Scrappers had already won the series and finish the road trip with a 3-2 record, winning their second straight road trip.
Dace Kime started for the Scrappers and pitched well until the bottom of the 3rd inning. With 2 outs he allowed a double to Curt Powell. Powell would then score on Austin Schotts single. Schotts then added what proved to be the winning run on Dominic Ficociello's double. The Tigers got both runs with 2 outs in the inning. The Scrappers lone run came in the top of the 7th inning. Leading off the inning, James Roberts connected on his first professional homerun to cut the lead to 2-1. The Scrappers were unable to get any closer.
Kime (0-2) went 4 innings to take the loss. He allowed 3 hits and 2 earned runs. He walked 4 and struck out 2. Matt Whitehouse then worked 2 innings. He did not allow a hit or run. He walked none and struck out 2. Briely Puerta worked the final 2 innings. Puerta allowed 2 hits but no runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out 1.
