July 4, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Gateway's second baseman Jonathan Johnson, first baseman Jerod Yakubik, catcher Landon Hernandez, and starting pitcher Tim Brown were all named to the Frontier League West All-Star Squad on Wednesday.

Inking his name to the 2012 All-Star club, Grizzlies leadoff bat Johnson has blazed to a .310 average while adding a team-leading 29 walks. The 5'8 speedster's most impressive feat at the season's mid-way point is a 42 game streak in which he has reached base safely.

Joining Johnson from the prolific Gateway infield is lefty Jerod Yakubik. The first baseman has helped anchor a defense that boasts a Frontier League leading 54 double plays while producing offensively, backed by a team-high .319 average and 34 RBI.

Rounding out the offense is Grizzlies catcher Landon Hernandez. Hernandez stamps claim to his first All-Star selection behind six homeruns, 25 RBI and an outstanding defensive prowess behind the plate. He caller put out 11-of-27 attempted stealers and allowed only two passed balls in first half play.

Gateway ace Tim Brown serves as the lone Grizzlies hurler to punch his ticket to Normal, securing a spot after posting the second best ERA (2.06) in the league. Brown has compiled a 4-2 record, 28 strikeouts, and has notched eight quality starts in nine appearances.

"We are excited for these four individuals," stated Gateway general manager Steve Gomric. "These players deserve this, and are great representatives of the Grizzlies and this community."
