Grizzlies Winning Streak Snapped with Loss to Windy City
July 4, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, Ill. - The Grizzlies saw their five-game win streak snapped Wednesday night after the Thunderbolts of Windy City issued the home squad a five-run first inning deficit on pace to the eventual 10-6 defeat at GCS Ballpark.
Gateway (23-21) starter Alex Kaminsky (5-3) found himself in a hole early, giving up five earned runs on two hits while walking home a run in his less than stellar outing. Kaminsky was charged the loss and finished his six innings of labor with six earned runs due in part to seven hits and four walks.
The Grizzlies still managed six runs offensively in the 10-6 downing, compiling nine hits with six separate bats posting a knock. Gateway bopper Rogelio Noris tallied his third homerun in just ten games in a 2-for-4, three-RBI effort. Frontier League All-Star selections Jerod Yakubik and Jonathan Johnson each grabbed two hits and two and one RBI respectively in the contest.
Thunderbolt (25-17) starter Dustin Williams (7-2) claimed the win, tossing six and two-thirds with five strikeouts, six earned runs, and scattered seven hits. Offensively Windy City was headlined by Brandon Decker's 2-for-4 effort and first frame grand slam.
Winners of six out of their last eight contests, Gateway will look to salvage the series win Thursday night at GCS Ballpark at 7:05 PM. Righty Patrick Arnold (3-1) will toe the rubber for Gateway.
