The Slammers tacked on an insurance run in the third when Abel Nieves doubled to bring around Hector Pellot. Florence tied it up in the fifth on a pair of home runs by John Malloy and Drew Rundle. Joliet quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Pellot belted an RBI double and eventually crossed on a fielding error. But the Freedom again came roaring back in the sixth. Jimmy Waters scored in the seventh for Joliet to tie it up at six. Slammers pitching allowed the final two runs to score for Florence in the ninth inning. With runners aboard, Jim Jacquot brought in the go-ahead run on a single, and Pierre LePage scored the insurance run to make the final 8-6.
For Starters.
Naperville native Michael Perconte gets the start tonight for Joliet as he comes off the 14-Day DL tonight. Perconte's last start for the Slammers came on June 2 against Washington. He went six innings, giving up one run on two hits in a no-decision. The Slammers won the game 3-1. Joliet acquired Perconte from the Gary South Shore RailCats on May 26 in exchange for Chuck Lukanen. Perconte has Double-A experience in the Astros and Rangers organizations. He was originally signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2008. Perconte is the son of Joliet native and former MLB player Jack Perconte.
