Last time out.

Joliet lost 8-6 last night. Jake Renshaw gave up a solo home run to David Harris in the first with one away. Joliet quickly pulled ahead in the second when Matt Mirabal got a run across on a groundout, and Brad Netzel smacked an RBI double to take the 2-1 lead. The Slammers tacked on an insurance run in the third when Abel Nieves doubled to bring around Hector Pellot. Florence tied it up in the fifth on a pair of home runs by John Malloy and Drew Rundle. Joliet quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Pellot belted an RBI double and eventually crossed on a fielding error. But the Freedom again came roaring back in the sixth. Peter Fatse knocked a run-scoring double, Eddie Rodriguez followed with an RBI triple, and with a runner on third, John Malloy hit a sacrifice fly. Jimmy Waters scored in the seventh for Joliet to tie it up at six. Slammers pitching allowed the final two runs to score for Florence in the ninth inning. With runners aboard, Jim Jacquot brought in the go-ahead run on a single, and Pierre LePage scored the insurance run to make the final 8-6.

For Starters.

Naperville native Michael Perconte gets the start tonight for Joliet as he comes off the 14-Day DL tonight. Perconte's last start for the Slammers came on June 2 against Washington. He went six innings, giving up one run on two hits in a no-decision. The Slammers won the game 3-1. Joliet acquired Perconte from the Gary South Shore RailCats on May 26 in exchange for Chuck Lukanen. Perconte has Double-A experience in the Astros and Rangers organizations. He was originally signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2008. Perconte is the son of Joliet native and former MLB player Jack Perconte.

Hey now, you're an All-Star!

Abel Nieves and Amalio Diaz will participate in the 2012 All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 11 at 7:05 p.m. in Normal, IL. Nieves was selected as a starter in the outfield for the West Division while Diaz was named to the pitching staff. Nieves, 26, has played every position for the Slammers this season except for center field, catcher and pitcher. He is currently hitting a team-leading .348 with three home runs and 19 RBI. Diaz, 25, has struck out 21 batters in 17.2 innings and has nine saves to his credit. The right-hander currently sports a 2.04 ERA.

Home woes.

The Slammers are 8-14 at Silver Cross Field. They are a little better on the road at 10-11.

Freedom Follies.

The Slammers went 0-6 against the Freedom in 2011. Florence is the only team Joliet has not beaten in the Frontier League.

Down but not out.

The Slammers are a season-high nine games out of first place and they are a season high seven games under .500. But they are only seven games out of the final playoff spot. The two division winners and the teams with the next two best records regardless of their division will make the playoffs.

Walks and K's.

Slammers second baseman Hector Pellot leads the club in walks (27) and is tied with Erik Lis for the team lead in strike outs (30).

Error indicator.

The Slammers are 4-19 in games when they make an error. They are 14-6 in games when they do not.

Out-hit.

When the Slammers out-hit an opponent they are 15-5, but when the opponent out-hits the Slammers Joliet has a record of 2-19.

Transaction Wire.

The Slammers released RHP Tyler Ware and activated RHP Michael Perconte from the DL today. They signed OF Patrick Norris. Yesterday the Slammers placed INF Kyle Maunus on the seven-day Disabled List.
