No Fireworks for Rippers on 4th of July

AVON, OHIO - Russell Moldenhauer drove in five runs, four on his 5th inning grand slam, leading the charge as Lake Erie (23-21) slowed London (17-27) 8-3.

Moldenhauer also singled in the third, bringing home the Crushers' third run of the game. Lake Erie put another on the board in the inning on a sac fly by Andrew Davis.

Moldenhauer's grand slam in the bottom 5th, extended Lake Erie's lead to 8-0.

That ended the night for London starter, Yohan Gonzalez (3-3) who could only complete 4.1 innings, giving up 8 runs on six hits. He walked five and struck out four.

The Rippers cut into the lead in the 6th, when Mark Samuelson smashed his 5th round- tripper of the season, a 2-run shot, closing Lake Erie's advantage to 8-2.

David Christensen followed one batter later with his team-leading 8th long ball, off new Crushers' pitcher, Randy Sturgill, making it 8-3.

London loaded the bases in the top of the 7th, but a strike out ended the frame.

Matt Sommo was strong in relief for London, throwing 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out four and allowing only three hits.

Trevor Longfellow (4-2) completed five runs for the Crushers. He walked three, struck out three and gave up two runs in the contest.

London wraps up their last road series before the All-Star Break tomorrow against the Crushers. The Rippers start Eric Katzman (1-3 6.03) against Eric Gonzalez-Diaz (3-4 4.07).
