Washington "Walks" Away with Win

London Rippers News Release

WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA - A three run 9th inning launched the Washington Wild Things (23-34) to a 6-5 walk-off win over London (24-34).

Gus Benusa won the game for Washington with a two-RBI single with one out in the final frame off Rippers' pitcher, Tony Delmonico.

Charles Wooten (1-2) started the 9th for the Rippers, but walked two and allowed a single, before being replaced by Delmonico with the bases loaded.

He faced only two batters, walking Andrew Heck, which made the game 5-4, and then giving up the game winning single to Benusa.

The bullpen collapse ruined a stellar performance by London starter, Matt Sommo.

Sommo made his best start of the year, putting up 8 innings of three-run baseball, giving up seven hits and two walks while striking out six.

He gave up single runs in the 1st, 3rd and 5th innings, but retired the last 12 Wild Things he faced.

London's offense was led by Justino Cuevas, who had RBI triples in the 6th and 8th, at that point giving the Rippers a 5-3 advantage.

The Rippers as a team had five hits, four which went for extra bases and nine walks.

The loss snaps London's four game winning streak.

London and Washington continue their series tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Brandon Sinnery (3-1 3.94) starts for the Rippers against Chris Smith (6-3 2.84).
