Last time out...

The Joliet Slammers comeback fell just short Saturday night at Silver Cross Field in a 6-5 loss to the Windy City ThunderBolts. Joliet got moving right away with a pair of runs in the first inning, courtesy of an Abel Nieves RBI single, and a fielder's choice by David Fox, making it 2-0. The Bolts proceeded to score six unanswered runs against Slammers pitching. In the third, Travis Weaver scored on a wild pitch, and Chad Cregar launched a three-run home run, putting Windy City ahead 4-2. They added a run in the fourth off a sacrifice fly from Brandon Pearl that brought home Brandon Decker, and Cregar went yard again in the fifth for a 6-2 lead. Joliet chipped away at the lead with a two-run single by Erik Lis in the bottom of the fifth, and put up another in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Hector Pellot, giving the game its final 6-5 tally. The Slammers stranded 14 runners on base.

For Starters...

Michal Perconte is coming off a rough outing against the Gateway Grizzlies on July 17. He went three innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits. Perconte has lasted a combined six innings in his past two starts after going six strong innings in each of his first two starts for the Slammers. Perconte was an undrafted free agent out of Murray State and signed with the Chicago Cubs organization and spent 2008-2010 in the Northwest, Florida State and Midwest Leagues. He made it to class AA in 2010 and pitched in the Texas League for Astros and Rangers affiliates before joining the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association earlier in 2012. The Naperville native was acquired by the Slammers on May 26, 2012 from Gary this season in exchange for Chuck Lukanen and Future Considerations. Perconte is the son of former major league player and Joliet native Jack Perconte.
