Windy City ThunderBolts News Release

CRESTWOOD, IL- Schaumburg defeated the ThunderBolts in a 5-3 game at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday night, and put themselves back up near the top, only half a game behind Windy City for the top spot in the West. Windy City entered a 6 game homestand against the Boomers in first place in the Western Division, with the Boomers trailing them by 1.5 games.

This game got started early by both teams, Schaumburg striking quickly against Windy City starter Tyson Corley. They scored their first two batters on a Chad Mozingo home run, to put themselves up 2-0.

The ThunderBolts were resilient though, coming into the game in the bottom of that very same inning and scoring two runs themselves. Mike Torres doubled, then scored on a bizarre Frank Pfister error that saw 3 ThunderBolts advance. On that play Chris Wade was able to advance to third, then was able to score himself on a Brandon Decker sacrifice fly.

Corley walked Jereme Milons to begin the 3rd inning, and Milons was able to advance all the way to third before Frank Pfister flew out to left field to bring him in. The scoring would then stop until the 7th inning when Nick Kurozcko came up to bat in the 7th and hit a solo home run to increase the lead to 4-2 Schaumburg.

The ThunderBolts would answer quickly, as Travis Weaver doubled to begin the bottom of that same inning. He would advance on a Torres groundout, then score on a Chris Wade groundout to put the score at 4-3, but the Boomers hit another solo shot, this one from Steve McQuail to solidify their score at 5-3, the eventual final.

Tyson Corley (1-6, 4.24) took the loss despite matching his career high in innings pitched with seven, while Schaumburg's Cody Griebling (1-1, 2.77) got the win. Duke Dykeman pitched two innings of relief, giving up one hit and one run.

The ThunderBolts and Boomers will meet up again tomorrow in the second game of the series, with the victor taking 1st place in the Western Divison standings. Pitching for the Bolts will be Stephen Sauer (5-4, 3.91), he'll be opposed by Schaumburg's Robby Donovan (6-2, 3.71). The game will be broadcast on sportsjuice.com
