Last Week's Games
Wednesday, March 4th - Quad City Flames 2 at Peoria Rivermen 5
Peoria extended the Flames winless skid to five games (0-3-1-1) on Wednesday night with a 5-2 win over Quad City. Peoria converted three times on the man advantage in the victory. Kyle Greentree netted the first Flames goal on a penalty shot. It was the 29th goal of the season for Greentree, who is now just one goal shy of tying the Quad City Flames franchise record for goals in a single season. Carsen Germyn added a third period tally for the other Flames goal. The Rivermen netted the only goal of the first period with just 1:15 left in the frame. With Matt Pelech off on a boarding major, Justin Fletcher scored his sixth goal of the year following a centering feed from Nicholas Drazenovic. The tally capped a period in which the Rivermen outshot the Flames 11-7. Peoria extended their lead to 2-0 when Trent Whitfield scored the second power-play goal of Pelech's major at 3:00 of the second frame. The Flames responded with a penalty shot goal by Kyle Greentree. The shot was awarded after a Peoria skater covered the puck in the Rivermen crease. Greentree converted on the penalty shot opportunity for his 29th goal of the year. The tally sliced the Peoria lead to 2-1. The Flames had an opportunity to tie the game at 10:55 of the period when Jonas Junland was whistled off for hooking. Instead, Chris Porter scored shorthanded for Peoria to stretch the Rivermen lead to 3-1. Ivan Vishnevskiy scored on the power play to give the Rivermen a three-goal cushion late in the second period. The skilled defenseman recorded his fourth goal of the year after beating a Flames defender and tucking the puck past Leland Irving. Vishnevskiy's goal stood up as the final tally of the middle period as the Rivermen took a 4-1 lead to the dressing room after 40 minutes. Carsen Germyn sparked an attempted comeback with a power-play goal at 8:35 of the third period. Germyn's fifth tally of the year shifted momentum to the Flames, but Quad City did not score again before Peoria's Cam Paddock scored into an empty net to set the final at 5-2 in favor of the Rivermen.
Friday, March 6th - Quad City Flames 4 at Rockford IceHogs 1
The Flames snapped a five game winless skid on Friday night in Rockford with a 4-1 triumph over the Hogs. Adam Cracknell, Carsen Germyn, Kyle Greentree and John Vigilante scored in the win while Leland Irving turned aside 27 shots to earn the win. The Flames carried play throughout the first period and captured a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Adam Cracknell scored on a feed from Justin Bowers during a Flames power play at 4:54 of the first period. Cracknell rocketed home a one-timer for his 10th goal of the campaign. The Flames went on to outshot the Hogs 12-5 in the period. The Flames stretched their lead to 3-0 with a pair of middle period tallies. Carsen Germyn scored his sixth goal of the year on a feed from behind the Rockford net by J.D. Watt. It was the first AHL point for the Flames rookie forward. Six minutes later, Kyle Greentree provided a thrilling goal to put the Flames in front 3-0. Greentree cut wide on the Rockford defense before tossing the puck past Rockford's Corey Crawford for his 30th goal of the year. He joins Krys Kolanos and Grant Stevenson atop the Flames single season goal scoring list. Both snipers netted a franchise record 30 goals in 2007-08. In the third period, the Hogs scored for the first time when a point shot by Tim Hambly snuck through a maze of bodies and found the back of the Quad City net. Leland Irving took over from there as he made 14 saves in the closing period. John Vigilante scored into an empty net to secure the win for Quad City.
Saturday, March 7th - Iowa Chops 2 at Quad City Flames 3 Overtime
The Flames beat Iowa 3-2 in overtime on Saturday at the i wireless Center. Kyle Greentree netted the overtime winner and established a new franchise record for single season goal scoring in the process. It was the 31st goal of the season for Greentree and his third in as many games. Carsen Germyn also extended his goal scoring streak to three games in the win while Kris Chucko scored in his first game back from a recall to Calgary. Carsen Germyn scored at 8:56 of the first period when he accepted a Kyle Greentree feed on the rush and ripped a shot past Iowa's David LeNeveu. It was Germyn's third goal in as many games and it stood up as the only tally of the opening frame. Chad Painchaud tied the game with his first goal of the season at 10:03 of the second period. Painchaud scored on a goal-mouth scramble after a Francis Wathier shot rebounded onto his stick. The goal was the only marker of the middle frame, and the teams headed to the dressing room tied at one after 40 minutes. The teams traded third period markers as Ajay Baines scored shorthanded before Kris Chucko re-tied the score at two with just 6:10 left in regulation. The Chops ran into penalty trouble late in regulation and into the overtime. Kyle Greentree scored on a backhand chance following a nifty feed from John Vigilante during a Flames power play at 2:03 of the overtime. The tally established a new franchise record for goals in a single season as Greentree netted his 31st goal in dramatic fashion.
Sunday, March 8th - Milwaukee Admirals 3 at Quad City Flames 4 Shootout
It took 15 shootout rounds, but the Flames topped the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 on Sunday at the i wireless Center. With the win, the Flames remain unbeaten in regulation in their last eight home games (7-0-0-1). Kyle Greentree, Hugo Carpentier and Justin Bowers scored in regulation as the Flames built at 3-1 lead through the first half of the contest. The Admirals rallied to force an extra session on a second period goal by Nolan Yonkman and a third period tally by Patric Hornqvist. The shootout starred the netminder as Leland Irving stopped 12 of the 15 shooters he faced while Milwaukee's Mark Dekanich turned aside 11 of 15 shootout participants. Bowers ended the epic shootout with a goal in the bottom of the 15th round. Hugh Jessiman put the Admirals in front with his 17th goal of the year at 6:09 of the first period. Jessiman snuck past the Flames defense and scored on a breakaway following a pass from Mike Santorelli. The Admirals went on to outshot the Flames 8-1 through the first half of the first period. Quad City rallied in the second half of the frame and tied the game on a power-play goal by Kyle Greentree with just 1:39 left in the period. Greentree scored by sending home the rebound from a John Vigilante chance. The marker extended Greentree's goal scoring streak to four games. The Flames scored twice in the first half of the second period as Hugo Carpentier and Justin Bowers put the Flames in front 3-1. Carpentier scored by deflecting home a Brandon Roach point shot. Bowers followed with a goal from in close. Milwaukee responded by netting their only goal of the middle frame on a Nolan Yonkman shot from the high slot. The Yonkman marker was the final goal of the period as the goaltenders stood tally for the remaining 6:40. Milwaukee's Mark Dekanich denied Kyle Greentree on a point blank chance on the shift following the Yonkman goal. Flames netminder Leland Irving made a spectacular pair of saves late in the period as he stopped James Sixsmith's breakaway before deflecting away a Patrick Hornqvist chance on the rebound from Sixsmith's chance. Thanks to the solid late period netminding, the Flames finished the middle period with a 3-2 lead. The Admirals forced an extra session when Patric Hornqvist scored the only goal of the third period at 7:37 of the frame. After skating scoreless through the overtime, the teams headed to the shootout. After five rounds, the shootout was tied at two goals each and the game moved into a sudden death shootout. Both teams were shutout for four consecutive rounds before trading goals in the 10th round. After four more scoreless rounds, Leland Irving denied Nick Spaling in the top of the 15th round. In the bottom of the round, Justin Bowers scored to give the Flames a 4-3 win.
