Crunch Announce Roster Moves

Syracuse, NY (March 10, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that defenseman Andrey Plekhanov is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a separated shoulder and defenseman Kyle Wharton is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a broken thumb. Both injuries occurred in games this past weekend. In addition, the Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned defensemen Trevor Hendrikx and Jon Landry to Syracuse from Johnstown and the Crunch have signed defenseman Nick St. Pierre to an amateur tryout contract.

Plekhanov, 22, has appeared in 54 games with the Crunch this season, tallying two goals, 17 assists and 50 penalty minutes. A native of Nizhnekamsk, Russia, Plekhanov was drafted by Columbus in the third round, 96th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Wharton, 23, has appeared in 18 games with the Crunch this season, notching one goal, two assists and 14 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 17 games with Johnstown (ECHL) this year, collecting two goals, six assists and 22 penalty minutes. A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Wharton was drafted by Columbus in the second round, 59th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Hendrikx, 23, has appeared in two games for the Crunch this season, recording seven penalty minutes. He has also skated in 37 games for Johnstown this year, racking up six goals, 10 assists and 107 penalty minutes. A native of Russell, Ontario, Hendrikx was originally drafted by Columbus in the ninth round, 283rd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Landry, 24, has appeared in 11 games for the Crunch this season, notching one assist and 12 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 41 games with Johnstown this year, registering seven goals, 15 assists and 49 penalty minutes. A native of Lexington, Massachusetts, Landry was signed by Columbus as a free agent on March 19, 2007.

St. Pierre, 24, appeared in 36 games with Colgate (ECAC) this year, recording four goals, 13 assists and 28 penalty minutes.
