ABOUT LAST GAME: After 17 innings and five hours and 43 minutes of baseball Tuesday night, Columbia split the doubleheader with Augusta. The Fireflies squeezed out a 4-3 win in game one, but the GreenJackets walked off in game two to claim a 6-5 victory.
AUGUSTA ANNIHILATORS: The Fireflies have swung the bats well in five games against the GreenJackets this season. As a team, Columbia is hitting .287 with 32 runs scored and a .351 on-base percentage. Here are some of the standouts:
Kevin Kaczmarski - 7/15, 4 R, HR, 3B, 3 2B, 7 RBI
Vinny Siena - 7/19, 8 R, 2 2B, RBI, 4 BB
Luis Ortega - 6/15, 4 R, HR, 5 RBI
Joe Tuschak - 5/11, 3 R, 2B, RBI
FORMER PATRIOTS SQUARE OFF: Columbia starter Joe Shaw toes the rubber against Augusta righty Cory Taylor, his old teammate at Dallas Baptist University. A powerhouse baseball program in Texas, DBU saw five junior pitchers taken in the first 12 rounds of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft. In 2015, the Patriots won a program-best 46 games and tied a school record with seven draft picks, matching the previous high set in 2006. The San Francisco Giants selected Taylor in the eighth round and the Mets landed Shaw in the 12th round.
THE OTHER GUYS: The GreenJackets have five Giants prospects on their roster, according to Baseball America.
3. RHP Phil Bickford
4. INF Lucius Fox
12. INF Jalen Miller
22: RHP Michael Santos
30. OF Dylan Davis
Columbia pitching has shut down Fox, Miller and Davis, though, this season. The trio is just 7-for-44 (.159) at the plate in five games against Fireflies hurlers.
