Columbia Bounces Back, Cavallaro Wins Again

April 20, 2018 - COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia evened its four-game series against the Hickory Crawdads with a 6-3 victory on Friday night at Spirit Communications Park. Starting pitcher Joe Cavallaro allowed just two hits and struck out six batters en route to his second win of the year in just three starts. Columbia remains tied for first place in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League. The 6-foot-4 right-hander has perhaps been the most consistent Fireflies starter. Merandy Gonzalez Becomes First Former Fireflies Player to Reach the Major Leagues

April 20, 2018 - Perhaps the most dominant stretch of his minor league career took place during his time as a Firefly from April 9-May 3, 2017. The righty chased a SAL record over his first five outings of the season: Gonzalez heaved 28.2 consecutive scoreless innings, which ended up falling just 11 shut-out innings shy of the league mark (39.2 IP). Fireflies Smash Ten Hits in Loss to Crawdads

April 19, 2018 - COLUMBIA, S.C. - Hickory and Columbia combined for 24 hits in a slugfest on Thursday night at Spirit Communications Park. The Crawdads defeated the Fireflies 10-5 in the series opener and scored all 10 runs in the first five innings. Despite the loss, Columbia's offense continued its success - 74 hits over the previous seven games.
