Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Chris Comito matched his career-high 6.0 innings pitched to lead Kannapolis past the Greenville Drive, 3-2, on Wednesday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. The Intimidators (23-36) snapped a six-game home losing streak with the victory, avoiding a series sweep.

Comito (1-5) earned his first win of the season, limiting the Drive to two runs on three hits while striking out five and walking two. The right-hander turned the ball over to Drew Hasler, who spun a perfect seventh. Taylore Cherry picked up where Hasler left off by retiring the side in order in the eighth and ninth innings for the save (4).

With the game tied 2-2 in the sixth inning, Bradley Strong drove in the deciding run. With two outs and Cody Daily on first base, Strong tripled off Drive reliever Jake Cosart to the right-field corner, scoring Daily for a 3-2 lead. Cosart (1-1) took the loss for Greenville, allowing a run on one hits while striking out four and walking one over 2.0 innings.

Kannapolis scored the games first run in the home half of the first inning. Grant Massey led off with a double, and Greenville starter Jose Almonte walked three of the next four batters to push Massey across the plate. The Drive tied the game in the top of the second inning, 1-1, when Luis Alexander Basabe tripled and scored on an Austin Rei ground out.

Kannapolis reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Kyle Ruchim collected his first RBI with the Intimidators, scoring Danny Mendick on a sacrifice fly. Mendick has now hit safely in 25 of his last 28 games with Kannapolis, dating back to April 20.

The Drive tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth when Jeremy Rivera singled, stole second base, moved to third on a grounder and scored on a wild pitch.

The Intimidators last home win came May 28 in a 5-4 walk-off win in 10 innings against Asheville. Wednesday night's win helped Kannapolis avoid a sweep at the hands of the Drive.
