Power Dodges Sweep with 7-2 Victory

(Charleston, WV- June 8, 2016)- The West Virginia Power bested the Delmarva Shorebirds 7-2 to avoid the sweep in the series finale. Logan Sendelbach tied a season-high with six strikeouts for the third consecutive start en route to his fourth win of the year.

The Power jumped to an early lead with two runs through the first six pitches thrown by starter Francisco Jimenez. Tito Polo launched a lead off triple, missing a home run by inches, and Logan Ratledge drove him home with an RBI single. One batter later Carlos Munoz hit a sacrifice fly to center to put the Power up.

The 'Birds came back for one in the third on an run scoring fielder's choice and tied the game in the fifth with a double steal, with Ricardo Andujar scoring the tying run on a steal of home.

The two runs were all Sendelbach (4-1) allowed through six innings, while striking out seven. The Power improved to 11-1 in games started by the right-hander.

West Virginia retook the lead for good in the home half of the inning. After Logan Hill led off with a walk, Tyler Filliben singled to right and advanced to third when right fielder Gerrion Grim let the ball roll past him to the wall. The next batter, Christian Kelley, knocked a sacrifice fly to score the Filliben and give the Power a 4-2 advantage.

Jimenez (4-6) surrendered five runs and six hits over six innings.

The Power tacked on a run in the seventh on doubles from Mitchell Tolman and Ryan Nagle. The club finished their scoring in the eighth. After loading the bases on two walks and a hit batter, Ratledge hit a sacrifice fly and Tolman blooped an RBI single to center to put the Power up 7-2.

Sean Keselica shutout Delmarva over the final three innings while giving up just one hit to notch his first save of the year.

Polo and Tolman each finished with a pair of hits, and Ratledge added his first two RBI of the season to pace the Power offense.

West Virginia goes on the road for seven games beginning with their first ever trip Columbia, South Carolina to take on the Fireflies for a four game set. Gage Hinsz makes his second start of the year for the Power, matched up against Firefly starter PJ Conlon. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Spirit Communications Park.
