Utah Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, California- The Fresno Falcons defeated the Utah Grizzlies 2-1 in a tightly-contested game on Tuesday night. The first period saw chances for both teams, with Utah taking 10 shots and Fresno with 12. The game remained scoreless until the 15:25 mark when Jean-Francois Plourde found the back of the net on a power play for his 16th goal of the season, assisted by Shawn Mather and Luke Curtin, to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Falcons increased their lead to 2-0 just 3:51 into the second period, as Kelsey Muench tipped a rebound past Utah netminder Justin Eddy for his third goal of the year, assisted by Cory Murphy and Dustin VanBallegooie. The Grizzlies had 20 shots in the second frame, including several scoring chances late in the period, but were unable to put the puck past goaltender Jamie Holden.

Utah's offence finally got going in the third period when Barret Ehgoetz put a shot from the circle past Holden to break his three game scoreless streak and cut the deficit in half. Jeff Miles and Brad Herauf picked up assists on that goal.

The Grizzlies (22-18-3) were unable to muster any further offence, and the Falcons (24-7-10) held on for the win. Utah plays again tomorrow night in Stockton, game time is 8:30 p.m.
