Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Kevin St. Jacques extended his home point streak to eight games as the Bakersfield Condors (33-6-3) lost 4-2 to the Alaska Aces in front of 4,003 fans at the Rabobank Arena.
Alaska (33-6-3) notched the game's first goal when Justin Maiser deflected a soft wrister by Peter Metcalf from the blue line. The puck trickled past Ryan Munce to give the Aces a 1-0 lead with 8:33 left in the period.
The Aces doubled their lead on the power play late in the second period when Maiser and Barrett Heisten peppered Ryan Munce with several shots point blank. Munce saved the first three shots his way but Ryan Gaucher picked up a big rebound at the bottom of the slot and deposited the puck into the open left side of the net, making it 2-0 at 16:07 of the second period.
Eric Neilson looked to spark his team following the Gaucher goal by engaging Alaska right winger Mike Lee. The Aces forward had the early advantage before Neilson went into overdrive and put Lee down onto the ice with three solid rights.
The Aces continued their attack when Matt Shasby connected on a long pass to Filion on the right wing. Filion tapped a backhander to the trailing Barrett Heisten in the slot, who one-timed it past Munce's left making it 3-0 Alaska with 16:20 left in the third period.
Kevin St. Jacques put the Condors on the boards as he led a two-man rush on the right wing alongside Nick Economakos. St. Jacques fired a slapshot from outside the circle and buried the puck under the crossbar over Matt Underhill's right shoulder to cut Alaska's lead to 3-1 with 12:21 remaining in the game.
The Condors would pull Ryan Munce following a late Barrett Heisten tripping penalty for a 6-on-4 advantage, but Maiser would lock up the game with an empty net goal from his own blue line with 19 seconds remaining.
The Condors would add a power play goal by Jason Norrie on a one-timer from an Economakos faceoff win, but the Aces would prove too much on their way to the 4-2 victory.
Matt Underhill picked up the win, stopping 26 of 28 Condor shots. Ryan Munce was credited with the loss, despite making 26 saves on 29 Alaska attempts faced.
Other notes: Scott Basiuk returned to action following a two-game suspension and assisted on the St. Jacques goal. Kevin St. Jacques extended his home point streak to eight games. Sean Venedam's point streak ended tonight at five games, matching St. Jacques' feat from earlier this season.
