FRESNO, Calif. - Goaltender Jamie Holden made 35 saves and J.F. Plourde and Kelsey Muench each scored to help lead the Fresno Falcons to a 2-1 victory against the Utah Grizzlies on Tuesday at Save Mart Center.

Plourde opened the scoring on Fresno's first power play of the game, splitting a pair of Utah defensemen and chipping a backhand top shelf as he was getting hauled down. The goal came at 15:25 of the first and snapped a 0 for 19 dry spell for the Falcons on the man advantage.

Muench added to Fresno's lead 3:51 into the second when he pounded home a rebound after an initial shot on goal by defenseman Cory Murphy. Holden took over in the second half of the middle period as the visitors skated on five power plays during the final 12:30 of the frame. The rookie netminder stopped all 20 shots he faced in the second, preserving his club's 2-0 lead into the third.

Utah finally solved Holden 3:54 into the final period when Barret Ehgoetz fired a wrist shot from the right face-off dot that found its way in. The Falcons defense did a very effective job shutting down the Grizzlies offense the rest of the way, though. Fresno yielded just four more shots on goal once Utah pulled within one, out-shooting their opposition 10-6 in the third and skating away with the 2-1 victory.

Although neither chance factored in the final score, both teams were awarded penalty shots during the contest. Utah's Kris Kasper was denied by Holden at 11:23 of the first, while Fresno's John Wroblewski was stopped by Grizzlies netminder Justin Eddy at 14:02 of the second.

The win halts a two-game winless slide for the Falcons, which move to 24-7-10 on the year with 58 points, giving the team a nine-point lead ahead of the second-place Long Beach Ice Dogs atop the Pacific Division.

Fresno plays two more games against the Grizzlies this week as they travel to Salt Lake City's E Center for a pair on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3 and 4. Both games may be heard live on 1550 Sporting News Radio beginning at 5:45 p.m. Pacific with the FutureTek Pre-game Show.
