Alaska Aces News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Justin Maiser and Barrett Heisten each had a goal and an assist as Alaska built a 3-0 lead and cruised to a 4-2 win over Bakersfield before 4,003 Tuesday at Rabobank Arena.

The Aces were out-chanced for the first 10 minutes, but the complexion of the game changed when a floater thrown on net by defenseman Peter Metcalf was redirected by Maiser past screened Bakersfield goaltender Ryan Munce at 11:27 of the first period. The Condors, who had out-shot Alaska 8-5 to that point, did not even register a shot on goal for the remainder of the frame. Maiser, meanwhile, has scored in each of the last four games after managing just two goals in the first 38.

The pace of the game bogged down in the second period, but the Aces were able to extend their lead when Ryan Gaucher flicked in a backhander for a power play goal at 16:07 and a 2-0 edge heading to the final 20 minutes. Early in the third, Olivier Filion set up Heisten off the rush for a virtual tap-in and a three-goal margin at 3:40. Kevin St. Jacques spoiled Matt Underhill's bid for a league-best fifth shutout with a slap shot at 12:21 that put the Condors on the board, but Louis Mass sealed Alaska's sixth straight win with an empty-netter from inside his own blue line with 20 seconds left to play. Jason Norrie scored Bakersfield's second goal with two seconds remaining directly off a draw to the left of Underhill, who finished with 27 saves to collect his sixth consecutive victory.

Alaska improves to 33-6-3 and takes over first place in the West Division by one point over idle Las Vegas. The Aces travel to Long Beach for a date with the Ice Dogs tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. AST, then head to Stockton for two games against the Thunder Friday and Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. AST. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
