Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA (February 1, 2006) Morgan Cey picked up his first professional shutout and the Johnstown Chiefs rolled to a 5-0 home win over Trenton.

After a scoreless first period, J.B. Bittner got the Chiefs on the board in the second, directing a Steve Cygan pass behind Titan goalie, Scott Stirling. Stirling was seeing his first action since being loaned to Trenton from San Antonio of the AHL.

Brad Thompson scored his third goal as a Chief a few minutes later, finding a loose puck in the slot and backhanding it past Stirling, making it 2-0.

John Toffey scored his fourth of the year on an excellent individual effort. Toffey stole the puck along the boards in his own zone, raced the length of the ice, and ripped a wrister past Stirling from the right circle. The Chiefs led 3-0.

Jean Desrochers' strong penalty killing set up the Chief's fourth goal, a shorthanded tally. Desrochers blocked the Trenton attack at the blue line, then chipped the puck ahead for a streaking Dmitri Tarabrin on a two-on-one. Tarabrin slid the puck across to Doug Andress, who faked the shot, before ripping a top shelf shot for the short handed tally and a 4-0 lead.

Steve Cygan added a break away goal in period three for the icing on the cake. Brett Peterson added his second assist of the night.

Cey stopped all 28 shots for the win, his third in a row.

The Chiefs 2005-06 season presented by First National Bank of Pennsylvania continues Friday in Dayton. The Chiefs return home, Saturday for a rematch with the Bombers. The puck drops at 7pm. Saturday is the Chiefs official pregame Super Bowl party. Fans will have the chance to win Steelers merchandise. The Chiefs are providing free face painting and prizes to the best dressed fans.
