Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves snapped a three-game losing streak as they pounded the Bowie Baysox, 10-2, on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium.
The SeaWolves jumped all over Bowie starter Keegan Akin early. In the top of the first inning, Will Maddox singled to left with one out. Willi Castro followed and worked an 11-pitch at bat before doubling home Maddox for a 1-0 lead.
Erie added to the lead in the second. Troy Montgomery led off with his third triple of the season. He scored on a one-out, Cam Gibson double to make it 2-0 SeaWolves.
The SeaWolves would take a 4-0 lead in the top of the third as Castro and Josh Lester connected on back-to-back home runs. The homer for Castro was his ninth of the year and fourth with Erie. For Lester, it was his 17th.
Erie again added to the lead in the fifth against reliever Michael Kelly. Lester led off with a walk and Jake Rogers singled with one out. Kody Eaves singled home Lester with two outs to make it 5-0. Gibson followed with a walk to load the bases for Danny Woodrow. Woodrow singled off the glove of a leaping Aderlin Rodriguez at first, plating a pair of runs for a 7-0 advantage. The hit for Woodrow extended his hitting streak to 10 consecutive games. He's hit safely in 14 of his past 15 games played.
The Baysox got on the board against Erie starter Alex Faedo in the bottom of the fifth. Yusniel Diaz led off with a double and advanced to third on an Austin Hays fly out. Ryan McKenny singled home Diaz to make it 7-1.
The SeaWolves continued to plate runs in the top of the sixth. Castro led off with a walk and Lester blasted his second home run of the game for a 9-1 lead. It was Lester's third multi-home run game of the season and he's homered five times in the past five games.
Erie made it 10-1 in the seventh against reliever Zach Muckenhirn. Maddox led off with a double and scored on a two-out Rogers base hit.
The Baysox plated one in the ninth off of reliever Nick Tepesch but he limited the damage after having the bases loaded against him with no outs.
Faedo (2-6) was impressive for the SeaWolves as he snapped a six-game losing skid. He allowed a run on three hits with no walks while establishing a new career-high with 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work. The seven innings equaled his season-high and it was his first win since July 16 against Richmond.
Akin (14-7) took the loss for the Baysox. He allowed four runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts in three innings of work.
The SeaWolves and Baysox meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Spenser Watkins (1-0, 5.40 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Bryan Gonzalez (6-6, 6.44 ERA).
