Espinosa Homers Thrice; Senators Win in 10

August 4, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Danny Espinosa homered three times, including the game-winning home run in the tenth, as the Harrisburg Senators defeated the Binghamton Mets in ten at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton on Wednesday night, by a final score of 5-3. All eight runs in the ballgame came on home runs, with six of the eight coming on solo shots.

Espinosa increased his home run total to 18 on the year with solo shots in the sixth and eighth, and a two-run homer in the tenth. The home run in the tenth inning scored Brad Coon, broke a 3-3 tie, and sent the Senators (58-53) to their sixth consecutive victory. Espinosa finished three-for-five on the ballgame, with four RBI and three runs scored.  The three-homer night by Espinosa was the first by a Senator since June 11th, 2005, when Dee Brown hit three home runs against Reading.  Brown, like Espinosa, hit a game-winning homer in extra-innings in that game.

The 5-3 lead was the first in the game for the Senators. Binghamton (54-57) led for much of the ballgame, thanks to three solo home runs. Their first came from Zach Lutz in the fourth inning off of Senators starter Andrew Kown, and put them in front 1-0. Raul Reyes then homered to lead off the fifth, and the B-Mets led 2-0 through five.

Espinosa's home run in the sixth off of reliever Manuel Alvarez cut the lead to 2-1, but Lutz answered back with his second home run-another solo shot in the bottom of the sixth-to put Binghamton back on top by two. Devin Ivany hit the fifth solo home run of the ballgame in the seventh inning to make it 3-2, and then Espinosa hit the sixth and final solo shot in the eighth to tie the game at three.

Reliever Chuck James (7-0) earned the win for the Sens, as he pitched three perfect innings in relief of Kown. Edgar Ramirez of the B-Mets gave up the tenth-inning homer, and took the loss to fall to 5-1. Cole Kimball earned the save for the Senators; it is his third of the season.

The Senators go for their second straight series sweep on Thursday evening at 6:35, when LHP Tom Milone (7-5, 3.05) faces RHP Chris Schwinden (4-6, 5.35) of the B-Mets. The Senators will also be going for their seventh straight win, as they continue their push for a playoff berth from the Eastern League's Western Division. Entering play Wednesday, they were just 2.5 games back of Bowie for the second playoff spot. Radio coverage of Thursday's game begins at 6:20 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
