. Twin Killing. The first-place Altoona Curve swept a doubleheader with the Aeros Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark, earning a 4-3 victory in the opener followed by a 3-2 win in 10 innings in the nightcap. A two-run triple by Jason Kipnis gabe Akron an early 3-1 lead in the first game heading into a chaotic fourth inning. Starter Alex White (6-5) took the loss as he surrendered four hits in the frame, including a pair of RBI singles with two outs to provide for the final margin. Altoona lefty Justin Wilson (9-6) earned the victory while Michael Dubee recorded his second save. In the second contest, left-hander Matt Packer limited the Curve attack through seven innings in his Akron debut but reliever Bryan Price (4-3) permitted the walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th. Altoona reliever Dustin Molleken (4-4) picked up the win with a perfect top half of that inning.
. Black and Blue. Tuesday's opener was a rare struggle for Akron's ace as he allowed four runs on seven hits with only two strikeouts in five frames. The four earned runs were the most by an Eastern League opponent against White in 14 outings so far this season and he had permitted just five earned runs in his last seven games spanning 43.2 innings pitched (1.03 ERA).
. The Cavalier. Packer made an impression Tuesday as he nearly battled his way toward an Aeros victory. He earned the promotion from Class A Lake County earlier in the day and gave up just two runs (one earned) in seven innings last night. The product of the University of Virginia also recorded six strikeouts against one walk in the game, continuing his phenomenal 2010 season. Combined between the Captains of the Midwest League and the Aeros, the 22-year-old Packer now leads all of full-season minor league baseball with a 1.58 ERA in 102.2 innings pitched and has 98 strikeouts against just 14 walks as well.
. Second Half Surprise. The best offensive player for Akron Tuesday was the second baseman Jason Kipnis, who finished 4-for-7 in the two games to continue his recent hot streak. The 23-year-old converted outfielder is batting .420 (29-for-69) with 18 runs scored in only 17 contests since the EL All-Star Break. He now ranks third in the Indians system with a .316 batting average combined this season and Cleveland selected Kipnis in the second round of the June 2009 Draft out of Arizona State University.
. Beau Knows Best. First baseman Beau Mills is another impressive hitter of late and he doubled home the only Aeros RBI in the second game Tuesday. He returned from an intercostral strain on June 29th and since, has a .307 (35-for-114) batting average with five home runs and 25 RBI in 30 games. He was a first-round (13th overall) selection by the Indians in the June 2007 Draft.
. Montero's Moment. After 17 plate appearances, Aeros left fielder Lucas Montero collected his first career Double-A hit in the ninth inning of Tuesday's finale. He is now batting .063 (1-for-16) since his promotion from Class A Kinston last week.
