Duncan's Career Day Helps Tribe Blank Braves
June 29, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Frank Duncan matched his career high with seven shutout innings as the Indians blanked Gwinnett, 5-0, to take the series victory on Sunday.
Indianapolis (42-37) scored four runs in the bottom of the first, thanks in part to a two-run double by Dan Gamache. He came through with the bases loaded, followed by RBIs for Willy Garcia and Pedro Florimon.
The Indians weren't able to add to the lead, but the story of the day was the outing turned in by Duncan (5-3). He worked seven scoreless innings in efficient fashion, throwing just 90 pitches as he scattered five hits and struck out seven to earn his fifth win.
The outing matched Duncan's career long, a feat he's accomplished now eight times. His last scoreless seven-inning start came with High-A Bradenton in 2015.
Gwinnett (35-45) saw its newly optioned starter Aaron Blair (3-1) take the loss.
Josh Bell chipped in an RBI single in the seventh to make him 3-for-3 on the day and push the score to 5-0.
The Indians next travel to Toledo to play five games in four days against the Mud Hens.
