Syracuse, NY - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders completed a three-game sweep over the Syracuse Chiefs Wednesday night, defeating Syracuse 11-2. The Chiefs scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning before the RailRiders scored nine unanswered runs from the sixth inning on.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (48-32) wasted no time in plating the game's first runs by scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Donovan Solano started the rally with a one-out single. After Aaron Judge popped out, Gary Sanchez singled to put RailRiders at first and second base with two outs. Syracuse starter Jaron Long then threw a wild pitch to Tyler Austin, allowing the runners to advance to second and third. Austin eventually worked a walk to load the bases. Jake Cave followed with a single to right field, plating Solano and Sanchez to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre an early 2-0 lead.

Syracuse (36-42) immediately responded off of RailRiders' starter Luis Severino. Trea Turner opened the frame with a double down the right-field line. Caleb Ramsey followed with a single, moving Turner to third. Brian Goodwin knocked in Turner with another single, cutting the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead to 2-1. Ramsey went to second on the hit. Matt Skole tied the score with a fourth consecutive hit by driving in Ramsey with a single to center field.

The score remained tied until the sixth inning. Erik Davis started the inning for Syracuse, replacing Long on the mound. Long finished after five innings, allowing seven hits and two runs. Pete Kozma reached first on an error by third baseman Jason Martinson to start the inning. Kozma then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Jonathan Diaz. Ben Gamel followed with a single, putting RailRiders on the corners with one out. Solano then hit a ground ball to Turner at short. The Chiefs nearly turned an inning-ending double play, but Solano just beat out the throw at first on the fielder's choice. Kozma scored on the play, and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took a 3-2 advantage.

The RailRiders took a commanding lead with a five-run top of the seventh. Cave began the rally with a one-out single. Cesar Puello added another single which advanced Cave to third. Kozma followed with a sacrifice fly to right field which plated Cave for a 4-2 lead. Puello moved to third on the play. Davis then issued a walk to Diaz to put runners on the corners. A wild pitch to Gamel allowed Puello to score and gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 5-2 lead. Diaz moved to second on the pitch. The Chiefs then elected to intentionally walk Gamel and put runners on first and second before Nick Masset entered the game. Solano welcomed Masset to the game by driving a single to right. The ball got under the glove of Ramsey and moved all the way to the wall. The error brought Diaz and Gamel around and allowed Solano to reach third. Judge capped the inning with a single to right which plated Solano for an 8-2 lead.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tacked on three more in the eighth. Austin opened the frame with a double to right field. Cave followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Puello then hit a sacrifice fly to Goodwin in center to score Austin, making the lead 9-2. Diaz added the exclamation point with a home run to left field to give the RailRiders a 11-2 lead.

The Chiefs now head to Rochester for a three-game, two-night road trip against the Red Wings. Game one of Thursday's doubleheader will begin at 6:05. Syracuse has scheduled Reynaldo Lopez to start opposite Andrew Albers for Rochester. Lopez will be making his Triple-A debut in the outing. Paolo Espino gets the nod in game two, while the Red Wings have yet to announce a starter.
