Bisons Battle Back to Extend Streak to Nine in 4-3 Win
June 29, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Bisons rallied in the top of the ninth inning to win their ninth straight ballgame on Wednesday, beating the Bats in Louisville 4-3.
Down 3-2, Darrell Ceciliani began the top of the ninth with his first home run of 2016, tying the game for the Herd at three with a blast against Dayan Diaz. With two runners on, Melky Mesa gave Buffalo its first lead of the game with a RBI single.
Lefty Wandy Peralta pitched six scoreless innings in a spot start for the Bats. Peralta, starting in place of the called-up Keyvius Sampson, allowed just two hits in his first minor league start since August 4, 2015.
Steve Selsky's sixth home run of the year gave the Bats a quick 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Selsky's shot also gave Louisville their first lead during this series.
Scott Diamond pitched effectively outside of Selsky's homer. The Buffalo starter struck out the side in order in the bottom of the third, and at one point retired nine straight batters. He fanned five hitters over 7.0 innings of work.
Peralta and Diamond are both saddled with no-decisions in their quality starts.
With the score tied at two in the bottom of the eighth, Louisville's Jermaine Curtis drilled a solo-home run to left off Colt Hynes. Curtis' blast is his seventh of the year, with his last coming against the Herd on August 20. Despite allowing the homer, Hynes win-loss record improves to 2-0.
In the top of the eighth, Domonic Brown singled and David Adams worked a four-pitch walk to set up the first Bisons' rally of the night. Casey Kotchman, pinch-hitting for Jio Mier, tied the game with an RBI double down the right field line. Kotchman was thrown out attempting to advance to third.
Drew Hayes relieved Peralta to begin the top of the seventh inning. The righty reliever hurled a perfect seventh, before allowing Buffalo to tie the game in the eighth.
Aaron Loup took the mound in the ninth for the Bisons, and a Kyle Waldrop double was stranded, as the lefty fanned Chris Berset, and Tony Renda popped a ball down the right field line, which Ceciliani corralled against the tarp to clinch a Buffalo victory. Loup earns his first save of the year.
The Herd heads home on Thursday to begin a four-game series with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. First pitch from Coca-Cola Field is set for 7:05 p.m., with Roberto Hernandez scheduled to duel Phil Coke.
