Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Third baseman Matt Davidson and infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia will represent the Charlotte Knights at the 2016 Sonic Automotive Triple-A Baseball All-Star Game presented by Gildan, which will take place on Wednesday, July 13th at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. Davidson and Garcia are among the 30 players named to the International League All-Star team, which was announced earlier this morning by the International League.

The 2016 International League All-Star squad is made up of 13 elected players who have received the most votes from ballots submitted by club's field managers and general managers (1/3), members of the media (1/3), and online fan voting (1/3). The elected players are joined by 17 additional All-Stars selected by the International League office. Each of the IL's fourteen clubs will be represented in Charlotte.

Davidson, who also represented the Knights at the 2015 Triple-A Baseball All-Star Game in Omaha, NE, is a three-time Triple-A All-Star. The California native was also a 2013 Pacific Coast League All-Star while playing with the Reno Aces (Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) in front of his hometown fans at the 2013 Triple-A All-Star Game in Reno, NV. This season, the 25-year-old slugger is hitting .268 (76-for-284) with 35 runs scored, 20 doubles, 10 home runs, and 46 RBIs. Currently, Davidson is tied for the International League lead in doubles and is tied for fourth in RBIs and fourth in extra-base hits (30). Davidson led the International League in home runs last season with 23.

Garcia, 25, is hitting .310 (54-for-174) with 20 runs scored, four doubles, two triples, two home runs, 18 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases. A member of the Chicago White Sox 40-man roster, Garcia hit .298 (104-for-349) last season with the Knights in 90 games. The Dominican native swiped a team-high 30 stolen bases last year with the Knights -- becoming just the 11th player in franchise history with 30 steals in a season.

The Knights will also be well represented in the dugout and in the broadcast booth. Charlotte Knights hitting coach Andy Tomberlin, a native of Monroe, NC, will represent the Knights as a coach on the International League squad. Tomberlin, a product of nearby Piedmont High School, will be joined by Knights long-time head athletic trainer Scott Johnson, who will also be on manager Chris Tremie's coaching staff. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will call the game on radio with Mike Pacheco joining the broadcast as a field reporter. The game will also be broadcast to a national audience live on the MLB Network starting at 7:00 p.m. EST on July 13th and feature former Charlotte O's player Bill Ripken in the booth.

The International League squad has won six of the past seven Triple-A All-Star Games, including the last three. Overall, the IL owns an 11-7 advantage over the Pacific Coast League in the eighteen years since the event changed to the current IL vs. PCL format. The winning league this season will once again earn the right to have its champion play as the "home team" at the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game which will take place Tuesday, September 20 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Tickets for the 2016 Harris Teeter and Tide+ Triple-A Baseball Home Run Derby presented by Clariant, as well as the 2016 All-Star Luncheon and 2016 Sonic Automotive Triple-A Baseball All-Star Game presented by Gildan, are on sale now and available by phone at 704-274-8282, online at CharlotteKnights.com, or in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office. Charlie Manuel and Jim Thome will be inducted into the Charlotte Baseball Roundtable of Honor on July 13th at the All-Star Luncheon, which takes place at the Charlotte Convention Center on July 13th.
