Gwinnett Stripers News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Joe Dunand sent a missile into the left-field seats for a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning on Wednesday night, but the Gwinnett Stripers (29-36) drew no closer in a 6-3 loss to the Nashville Sounds (33-31) at First Horizon Park.
Decisive Plays: Nashville took a 1-0 lead in the third on a bases-loaded walk from Allan Winans to Brice Turang. In the fifth, Turang extended the lead to 4-0 with a three-run homer (1) to center field. Vaughn Grissom ended the shutout with a two-out RBI single in the sixth cutting it to 4-1, but the Sounds tacked on two more runs against Winans in the seventh to go up 6-1. In the ninth, Grissom singled off Thyago Vieira and scored on Dunand's 390-foot homer (8) to left, reducing the deficit to 6-3. Braden Shewmake followed with a walk, but Vieira recovered to get the next three batters.
Key Contributors: Dunand (2-for-3, homer, 2 RBIs) and Grissom (2-for-4, RBI) had four of Gwinnett's five hits in the contest. For Nashville, Turang went 1-for-4 with the homer and four RBIs, backing 5.0 scoreless, two-hit innings from Thomas Pannone (W, 2-1).
Noteworthy: Winans pitched in relief of Matt Swarmer (L, 2-4), who was utilized as an opener and became the 18th different pitcher to start for Gwinnett this year. Dunand is now batting .395 (15-for-38) with five homers, 10 RBIs, and a 1.294 OPS in 10 games in June. Daniel Robertson went 0-for-4, snapping his 15-game on-base streak.
