Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Cody Donaghey scored two goals and Chris Driedger made 34 saves as the Brampton Beast defeated the Norfolk Admirals 4-3 on Friday night.

Brampton welcomed Norfolk to the Powerade Centre for the second time this season.

The Beast had a hot first period start in yesterday's game and they kept the momentum going in this contest. With the Beast on the penalty kill, Brandon Marino broke into the offensive zone with speed and dropped a pass to the trailing Jordan Henry.

The burly defenseman rung the first shot of the post before following up on his own rebound and potting a short-handed goal at 2:21.

Brampton continued their short-handed assault in the first. This time is was Brandon MacLean speeding past the Admirals defender for a short-handed chance. He was hauled down and was awarded a penalty shot on the play.

MacLean made no mistake as he swung wide to open up Admirals netminder Ty Reichenbach before firing a quick bullet through the wickets to give Brampton a 2-0 lead at 11:19.

The Beast would head to the first intermission up 2-0 and ahead in shots by a 13-11 count.

The second brought more Beast scoring, this time from Cody Donaghey. The young defenseman curised dow and main street and took a perfect pass from Chris Leveille. He paused then snapped home the wrister at 7:40.

Donaghey didn't stop at just one, and at 12:57 he scored his second of the game to make it 4-0. This time it was a perfect cross crease pass on the power play from Alex Foster.

Brampton took a 4-0 lead into the second intermission and had the lead in shots by a 27-25 count.

The third period got incredibly dicey for the Beast as the Admirals were able to pot three goals and cut the deficit to just one. Tommy Schutt broke Chris Driedger's shutout bid at 6:15 and was then joined by teammates Grant Besse and Sam Ftorek at 8:45 and 9:18 respectively.

Brampton called a timeout and was able to regain control and lock down the rest of the game. The final score was 4-3, with the aforementioned Driedger making 34 saves.

Notes: Molson Three Stars: 3) Henry (BRA) 2) MacLean (BRA) 1) Donaghey (BRA). Brampton went one-for-five on the man advantage. Norfolk was head scoreless on the power play. The Beast will take on the Cyclones live from the Powerade Centre Sunday at 2 PM.
